There once was an earthworm named Diggy, and Diggy’s tail wiggled with so much excitement that it sent Diggy flying through the air.
Everyday Diggy’s tail surprised him, and he never knew where his tail was going take him. Diggy would plop in a different, unusual place everyday, places no other earthworm has ever been.
Everyday Diggy met a new friend on his adventures.
On this particular day, Diggy’s tail sent him down and around, and up and over the hill, flying through the air, where he plopped:
On top of a lily pad!
Dizzy and dazed from his flight through the air, Diggy the earthworm said, “Whew! Where am I?”
A deep, croaking voice nearby said, “You’re on my lily pad. Who are you?”
“I’m Diggy the Earthworm. Who are you, and where are you?”
“Oooover here,” said a frog, who suddenly jumped onto the lily pad next to Diggy.
Diggy squealed a quiet earthworm scream. The frog said in her slow and croaky frog voice, “Hiiiiii Diiiiggy. My name is Freeda Frog. I thought earthworms lived underground. Hoooow did you get here?”
Diggy said, “My tail. It takes me to the most unusual places. I never know where I’m going to end up. Once I plopped on top of a ceiling fan. Another time I went to outer space in a rocket. Then there was a bird’s wing. I have many stories to tell!”
Freeda Frog was amazed and said, “Heeeeey, Diiiiiiggy! Do you want to hop around lily pads with me today? Your tail can hold on to my back and we can juuuump around the pond!”
“Yeah! That sound like so much fun! Let’s go!” So Diggy climbed onto Freeda Frog’s back and hung on tight. They hopped around the pond until sunset, when they both decided they were too tired to hop one more hop.
“This was so much fun Freeda Frog, but I have to get home and go to bed.”
“Meeee too, Diggy.” croaked Freeda Frog. “This was really fun. Caaaaan you come back again and see me?”
“I sure can, but I can’t tell you when. Only my tail knows that!” said Diggy.
Diggy’s tail took him down and around, and up and over the hill, where he plopped into his bed and had a good night’s sleep.
